Civale refused to give officers a straight answer as to where she was headed, initially claiming that she was heading to Dunkin’ Donuts and then said she was trying to catch a bus to Providence.
Police offered to drive Civale back to her residence, but told her they’d need to search her purse before letting her into the squad car. As they walked her to the car, one officer smelled marijuana coming from her and told her they’d need to search her purse, prompting her to immediately pull the purse close to her body and insist there was nothing inside. Finally, Civale acquiesced and allegedly proceeded to dump the contents of her purse on the hood of the police car.
