No Joke: NK Man Racks Up Five Misdemeanors On April Fools
Christopher Robert Kairnes, 42, of 23 New Lexington Road, was arrested April 1 at 12:20 a.m. on charges of drunken driving, obstructing an officer, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and driving with a suspended license.
Police allegedly clocked Kairne's red minivan traveling 58 mph in a 35-mph zone. An officer followed Kairnes as he turned down King Phillip Drive and continued driving — though police had reportedly turned on their emergency lights — and parked in his driveway.

When police told Kairnes to stay in his car, he allegedly ignored the command by exiting the vehicle and stumbling to the side. According to police, Kairnes told police he did not have to listen to them because he was a “sovereign citizen” and also denied driving over the speed limit. (Kairnes allegedly added he was not driving but “travelling” and refused to provide officers with his license because he was a “traveler” and under the Constitution he did not have to present any identification.)
When officers attempted to arrest Kairnes, he tried to hold his hands away from handcuffs and was pepper-sprayed twice by an officer after he refused to cooperate, according to reports.

During transport to headquarters, officers stated Kairnes told them they’d be sorry for arresting him and that he was going to “own the town.” At headquarters, Kairnes began using vulgarities to describe the officers and told them to shut up, according to police.
He was transported to Fourth District Court later that day.
