Craig Tanner, 37, of 20 Agnus St., Apt. 1 in West Warwick was arrested Sept. 25 at 12:50 p.m. on charges of driving in possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.
Tanner was found in his car, along with three friends, at the Stop & Shop plaza on Frenchtown Road. According to his arresting officer, the area around Tanner’s car smelled of burnt marijuana. When the officer attempted to pull up next to his car, Tanner left the plaza and headed Weston Frenchtown and then turned into Precision Park – where the officer pulled them over.
During the stop, the officer noted that he smelled marijuana and Axe deodorant, which he believed was used to mask the smell of the marijuana. The officer also allegedly saw a glass smoking pipe in his glove box. According to reports, Tanner told the officer, “I was on my lunch break and now I’m going back to work. I wasn’t smoking any marijuana.” When the officer told him he saw the pipe, Tanner allegedly admitted to smoking with his two passengers.
Police were unable to find anything else in Tanner’s car following a search. According to reports, one of his passengers had a valid medical marijuana card and a jar of marijuana found in the car belonged to him.
