NK Police Log: Suspicious Drunk & Exploding Mailbox
The following information was supplied by the North Kingstown Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Neighbor Dispute Possible Motive for Mailbox Vandalism
A resident on Hillcrest Drive awoke to a loud explosion at 1:30 a.m. on Jan. 19. That morning, he noticed his mailbox had been blown up and pieces were strewn in a 50-foot radius around his yard and street, as well as his neighbor’s lawn. A couple living across the street reportedly saw a car leave the area and head toward Mount Laurel Way after the explosion.
According to the victim, he has had problems with his neighbors who live farther up his street. Police were unable to contact said neighbors. The fire marshal believes that an M80 firework was used to destroy the mailbox. No other mailboxes in the area were damaged.

When police arrived, they found the man, who was admittedly intoxicated. He told officers he had been walking around outside and lying down on the ground because he was hot. During their conversation, the man’s friend came to claim him and brought him back to his apartment.
