NK Police Log: Talkative Suspect

The following information was supplied by the North Kingstown Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Police arrested Joseph A. Gilmore, 24, of Pine River Drive, for domestic simple assault and domestic disorderly conducat on Nov. 18 after he allegedly beat up his female roomate in front of her teenage son.

After being called to the scene, police found Gilmore walking down Pine River Drive. He immediately apologized and asked police to apologize to the alleged victim, according to reports. Officers continued on to the residence to find out why he was apologizing. Her missing front tooth was a likely reason.

The woman told police she and Gilmore, who rents the lower level of her apartment from her, were arguing most of the day over who would use the car to get to work. She said he punched her in the face, shoved her to the ground and kicked her several times while she was down. In addition to the missing tooth, police noticed red marks on her upper right arm.

Spare Some Change?

Police responded to Engine Food Lane, 6155 Post Road, on Nov. 15 for reports of vandalism and theft. Cindi Whitford, the store's manager, reported someone had broken into the vacuume cleaner in the parking lot, stealing the quarters inside and damaging the machine.

She told police that two nights earlier, two men entered the store, bought a bottle of soda and some scratch tickets, spending several minutes at the counter scratching the tickets. When they left, they walked to a car parked next to the vacuume cleaner.

Whitford estimates $265 went missing from the machine. Police checked serveillance tapes, which did not reveal any movement near the vacuume cleaner while the car was parked there.

Unexpected Visitor

Officers responded to a home on Tower Hill Road after receiving reports of an unknown intruder. The home's resident reported she found Barbara J. McCabe, 56, of 20 Shady Lea Road, Apt. 1W, attempting to enter the home using her car key. Her car was reportedly parked on the home's front lawn.

Officers found McCabe sitting in her white Buick. She told them she had gone out to smoke a cigarette because she is not allowed to in her apartment complex, and returned to find she was locked out of her apartment. She did not know she was at the wrong residence. Officers reportedly detected alcohol on her breath.

McCabe's car was towed from the scene and officers drove her home.
