Man Charged With DUI Threatens Officers During Arrest
Alvin Robinson, 48, of 140 Laurel Ln. in West Kingston, was arrested Feb. 26 at 9:12 p.m. on charges of drunken driving and failure to stop with an accident resulting.
Police received the initial call regarding Robinson which stated he was traveling down Post Road near Camp Avenue and was swerving all over the road. While en route, officers received a call from dispatch stating that Robinson had just collided with an occupied vehicle at the intersection of Tower Hill Road and Ten Rod Road after failing to stop at a red light and left the scene of the accident.
Police arrived at 1105 Tower Hill Rd. where Robinson was pulling into the driveway and attempting to pull into a parking spot. After police initiated emergency lights and approached him, Robinson stated, “You ain’t stealing my [expletive] car.”
When police explained to him why they had stopped him, Robinson denied hitting any cars. Police noticed he appeared to be under the influence and asked him if he had drunk any alcohol, to which Robinson replied, “Hell no.” When asked a second time, Robinson admitted to drinking two beers.
After failing the field sobriety test, Robinson was placed under arrest and became even more agitated. According to police reports, Robinson threatened an officer and also threatened to stab the officer’s mother. While in the police cruiser, Robinson continued to scream and thrash wildly and made threats to all officers on the scene.
At headquarters, Robinson refused a chemical test and refused to sign the refusal sheet as well.
NK Woman Arrested Following Warrant
Michelle Kumes, 42, of 1 Main St. in North Kingstown, was arrested Feb. 27 at 9:14 p.m. following a warrant for her arrest.
Police responded to Kumes’ home after a 911 hang-up. Upon arrival, Kumes explained she had a verbal argument with her boyfriend but he had already left. As officers were leaving the residence, dispatch notified them that Kumes had an active warrant for her arrest.
When officers notified Kumes that they’d have to arrest her, she allegedly said, “This is ridiculous. If I’m going to jail [my boyfriend] is getting arrested for beating me up.” (According to police reports, Kumes did not appear to have any bruises, cuts or any other indications of a physical disturbance.) Kumes gave officers her boyfriend’s name and claimed he had “several active warrants.”
Kumes was arraigned that night. Police documented the incident between Kumes and her boyfriend as a verbal argument, citing lack of cooperation from Kumes regarding a formal statement and the condition of the apartment (it appeared to be clean and void of evidence of a physical disturbance).
Two Women Flee Scene After Shoplifting From Kohl's
Anastasia Cassidy Vick, 26, of 2181 South County Trl. in West Kingston and Candace Lanier were arrested Feb. 28 at 6:18 p.m. on charges of shoplifting from Kohl’s and conspiracy.
A Kohl’s loss prevention officer witnessed Cassidy Vick and Lanier walk through the store and place various items in their shopping cart. According to the employee, the women then went into the fitting room for nearly 30 minutes and exited with no merchandise in their hands, “bulging” purses and no shopping cart. (The cart was later found in the fitting room with hangers, discarded tags and empty makeup boxes inside.)
According to police, after the women left the store after only paying for a small purchase, the employee intercepted them outside the store. When the employee confronted the women, they allegedly refused to reenter the store and took off in their car down Post Road.
Police stopped the women on Ten Rod Road near the North Kingstown/Exeter line and took them into custody. While speaking with the women, officers discovered that the two had allegedly discarded stolen merchandise on Devils Foot Road while fleeing the scene.
Both women are set to appear in Fourth District Court on March 15.
