NK Police Log: Two Teens Charged With Possession Of Alcohol

Jason Derange, 34, of 34 Preston Drive, was arrested July 25 at 1:30 a.m. on charges of domestic assault, vandalism, refusal to relinquish a telephone and domestic disorderly conduct.

Police responded to the residence after a woman called, in obvious distress, saying “he” was coming through the window. Before more information could be obtained, the line went dead. When police arrived moments later, they allegedly found a broken phone receiver in the street in front of the house. As police approached the house, the woman (who officers described as small and frail-looking) allegedly cried out to police that the man was in the house after kicking in her windows.

According to reports, the woman had told Derange not to return to the house after he had spent the night out drinking. When he returned, the woman reportedly locked the door, which led to Derange attempting to enter the house through a number of windows, damaging a fan and an air conditioner in the process.

Later that day, Derange returned to the house, despite being issued a restraining order from Fourth District Court. According to reports, Derange told the woman he would change and to let him into the house. When she refused, Derange allegedly told her, “I’m coming into the house and if you don’t let me in I’m going to drive my [expletive] truck right through the living room.”

Coventry Man Charged With Felony Charge of Forgery

Jason Kyle Perry, 30, of 67 Mill St. in Coventry, was arrested July 25 at 9:20 p.m. on felony charges of forgery and obtaining money under false pretenses.

According to police, back in June, Perry’s father gave him a check for $100 to help pay his utilities. After Perry left, his father reportedly realized he had filled out the check incorrectly — he had forgotten to write out the check amount — and asked him to return so he could fix it. Perry allegedly never returned, and when his father checked his bank account balance, he noticed Perry had cashed the check for $400.

Police spoke with Perry’s mother, who allegedly said her son had confessed to her that he had changed the amount of the check. According to police, Perry asserted that he never changed the amount of the check and that it had originally been for $400, never $100. Police also said Perry continued to be uncooperative and gave a false address and phone number.

Perry was picked up by the Rhode Island State Police following a warrant for his arrest last week.

Two Teens Arrested For Possession of Alcohol

A North Kingstown teen, 18, of 69 Mesa Drive, was arrested July 27 at 1:34 a.m. on charges of possession of alcohol by an underage person.

Police responded to Filippou’s Pizza following a call of a reported suspicious vehicle. According to police, the 18-year-old was waiting for his friend (see police log below), telling police he was concerned for her well-being. While speaking with the teen, who was the driver of the car, police allegedly saw a number of Coors Light cans. After police searched him, he allegedly told police he had consumed 2 beers in the last 20 minutes, at which point police placed him in a squad car.

A search of the car allegedly revealed 23 cold and unopened can of Coors Light sitting in an ice cooler.

A Jamestown teen, 18, of 10 Coronado St., was arrested July 27 at 12:40 a.m. on charges of possession of alcohol by an underage person.

After speaking with her companion, police made contact with the Jamestown teen. While speaking with her, police allegedly saw an open bottle of Captain Morgan Parrot Bay in plain view on the front passenger-side seat.

She is set to appear in Fourth District Court on Aug. 16.
