Underage Man Says 'I'm Not Drunk, Only High'

Robin Oliva, 20, of 205 Bucklin St. in Providence, was arrested on July 21 at 1:42 p.m. on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, underage possession of alcohol and refusal to submit to a chemical test.

Police observed Oliva’s vehicle allegedly swerving in and out of the lane, and pulled the car over. According to police, the car did not slow down and only came to a stop after police halted traffic. When police spoke with Oliva, the driver, he said he was driving someone home. According to reports, officers noted that a burnt marijuana smell was coming from the car.

When police asked Oliva if he had been drinking that evening, he allegedly said he only had two sips of alcohol. Due to his age, police immediately had him exit the car. According to reports, Oliva was moving slowly and seemed lethargic as he leaned against the car. Police reported that Oliva again said he only had “two sips of hard liquor,” and kept saying he was not intoxicated. “I’m not drunk, only high,” Oliva reportedly said.

According to police, Oliva said he was sharing a “blunt” with his passengers and that was why he was “messed up.” Police requested that Oliva submit to the field sobriety test, to which he allegedly said “Yeah, I’ll take the test because I’m just high.”

After failing the test, police arrested Oliva and began to search his car. According to reports, they found a bottle of brandy, which a passenger allegedly said Oliva had been drinking while he was driving.

Maine Man Arrested For Peddling Without License

Kevin Andrew Hathcox, 51, of 37 Casco St. Apt. 615 in Portland, Maine, was arrested on July 21 at 1:44 p.m. on charges of possession of marijuana and selling products from his vehicle without a peddler's license.

Police responded to a phone call stating that several people were selling items out of a pickup truck with a refrigerator in the back. Police spoke with Hathcox, who had been stopped and let off with a warning in the same area back in April for the same activity. Hathcox allegedly said he remembered the warning from April and would leave the area. Police told him that since he was already warned once, he would be charged with a town ordinance violation. Hathcox was taken into custody and transported to headquarters to be transported.

While being processed, police allegedly found a baggie of marijuana in his shoe. He was later arraigned and released on $1,000 bail with surety.
