NK Police Log: Woman Allegedly Caught Huffing Spray Cans At Home Depot

Man Charged With Possession of Marijuana

Benjamin Matthew Anderson, 19, of 258 Terrace Ave. in East Providence, was arrested June 2 at 2:10 a.m. for alleged possession of marijuana.

Police pulled Anderson over on Tower Hill Road near Dave’s Marketplace after Anderson had turned on his high beams 100 feet away from a traveling police cruiser. While speaking with Anderson, officers allegedly smelled burnt marijuana. Anderson admitted to smoking marijuana that evening

When police asked Anderson to open his glove compartment he allegedly said, “I’ve got lots of personal stuff in there. I can’t,” before handing over his keys to unlock it. Inside, police allegedly found a sandwich bag containing marijuana along with a metal grinder containing marijuana residue and a sunglass case containing a glass smoking pipe. 

He is set to appear in Fourth District Court on June 14.

NK Woman Hit With DUI Charge

Edna Dunn, 60, of 50 Pine River Road, was arrested June 3 at 1:07 a.m. on charges of drunken driving.

Police pulled over Dunn after allegedly observing her car swerve in and out of lanes. While speaking with police, Dunn reportedly told them she had two glasses of wine that night at 007 Bar & Grille.

During her field sobriety test, police allege Dunn nearly fell over multiple times. After failing the field sobriety test, Dunn’s blood alcohol content was reportedly measured at .158 percent, .183 percent and .177 percent.

She is set to appear in Fourth District Court on June 14.

NK Man Charged With Drunken Driving

Mark Christopher Singleton, 51, of 599 Hatchery Road, was arrested June 4 at 12:53 a.m. on charges of drunken driving.

Police pulled Singleton over after allegedly clocking him at 59 mph in a 35-mph zone and observing Singleton’s car swerve in and out of lanes. Initially, Singleton told officers he did not drink any alcohol that evening, but later admitted to consuming “a couple of beers,” according to police. Singleton was taken to the North Kingstown Police Department for booking after he failed his field sobriety test.

Woman Allegedly Caught Huffing Spray Cans At Home Depot

Police were called to Home Depot for a report of a woman passed out in the flower section. According to the caller, he found the woman (later identified as Cheryl Latham, 41, of 715 S. County Trail in Exeter),  passed out and wedged between two flower stands. After the man was able to awaken her, he said he saw her start “huffing” from a can of CRC Duster compressed air. According to reports, the man  tried to take the can from Latham who then tried to get up, but fell and knocked over two plants.

Latham then quickly exited the store toward Quaker Lane. When they arrived, officers found her walking down a wooded embankment toward Scrabbletown Road.

While speaking with police, Latham admitted to “huffing” cans. She was unable to provide receipts for two of the three cans in her possession.

  • Ronald Lawton Holland, Jr., 28, of 26 Camp Ave., was arrested June 3 at 9 p.m. following a warrant for his arrest.
  • Henry Lee Johnson, 45, of 63 Greenmeadow Circle, was arrested June 5 at 8:30 p.m. following a bench warrant for his arrest.
