NK Police Log: Woman Arrested After She 'Just Kinda Lost It And Bit Her'

Alleged Bike Toss, Punching Leads to Assault Charges

Peter Bernard Kurczy, 45, of 14 Lea Drive, was arrested on July 5 at 4 p.m. on charges of simple assault and disorderly conduct. 

According to the victim, she had been with Kurczy and three witnesses at the beach. Upon arriving home, Kurczy reportedly got very agitated when the button on the garage door wasn’t working. The victim said she tried to calm him but it didn’t work. After she was in her bedroom, Kurczy allegedly began yelling and swearing at the three witnesses when he could not find the television remote. One witness said that they attempted several times to tell Kurczy that he was sitting on the remote but he allegedly could not hear them because he wouldn’t stop talking.

According to reports, when the victim came into the room, she said she told him to stop swearing and yelling, prompting him to swear and yell at her. The victim said Kurczy soon became more agitated and  threw a bicycle at her. According to reports, he walked over the victim and pushed her against a car, grabbed her by the hair and punched her several times in the head and face. After letting her go, he allegedly grabbed the victim again, and began punching her again. The victim said she was able to get away and get back to the house but Kurczy allegedly threw a cooler full of ice and beer at her, but missed.

The victim called the police and Kurczy fled just before officers arrived. The next day, he turned himself in at headquarters. Kurczy was released on a personal recognizance and was issued a no contact order against the victim.

Man Charged With Drunken Driving

Thomas Paul Phillips, 20, of 156 Sachem Road, was arrested on July 6 at 11:03 p.m. on charges of drunken driving and refusal to submit to a chemical test. 

Police responded to a call reporting that a female was being dragged into a dark vehicle near Yorktown Park, and there were three other people running into the park. 

Upon arriving, police noted a vehicle leaving the area with no lights on. After officers pulled the vehicle over, they identified the driver and only occupant as Phillips. Phillips said he had gotten into a argument with his girlfriend. While speaking to him, police allegedly noticed that Phillips smelled over alcohol and had slurred speech and bloodshot eyes.

He said the argument had begun because he had been talking to another girl, prompting his gilrfriend to yell at him and leave the park on foot. After being unable to sufficiently pass the field sobriety test, police tried to have him blow into a breathalyzer but Phillips was allegedly either not blowing into the machine or blocking it with his tongue. Police then took Phillips into custody. 

Woman Charged With Attacking, Biting Another

Chelsea R. Bishop, 27, of 629 Camp Ave., was arrested on July 8 at 9 a.m. on charges of simple assault and disorderly conduct. 

When officers responded to a call of domestic assault, they found the victim sitting in her vehicle. She reportedly said Bishop had just attacked her. Police noticed that the victim’s face was red and there were swollen marks along her right and left cheeks, scratches on her arm, and a bite mark on her right arm. Police also reported that the victim’s shirt was torn and had dirt and grass stains on it.

Police entered the house and found Bishop in her bedroom. When asked what had happened with the victim, Bishop allegedly said that she had heard the victim screaming at a Bishop’s mother in the house and that the screaming was “pissing her off” so she got up and “attacked” her. According to reports, when asked what she meant by attacked, Bishop said she became enraged and started hitting the victim. She reportedly said that she didn’t mean to bite the victim, but she became so upset she “just kinda lost it and bit her.” Police arrested Bishop and transported her to 4th Division Court without incident. 

After Foot Chace, Police Catch Alleged Assaulter

Jory Jon Mann, 36, of 7255 Post Road Apt. 9, was arrested on charges of simple assault, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. 

When police arrived at the scene, they first spoke with the victim, who was crying and said she had been hit in the right eye, which police noticed appeared swollen. Police also reported that the victim smelled of alcohol. She told police that minutes before they arrived Mann — whom the victim's cousin brought to her house — had hit her in the eye.

The victim said she did not like way the way Mann had been staring at her cousin “like he was undressing her in his head” and had told him to “knock it off.” The victim reported that Mann would not leave even after she had asked him to. According to reports, her cousin finally took Mann home.

The victim gave police a description of Mann and told them where he lived. She also told police that Mann had been drinking during the afternoon and had continued to drink shots of liquor while at her apartment.

When police arrived at Mann’s home, he reportedly fled the area on foot, but police were able to catch him after chasing him into the the heavy brush behind his residence. According to reports, Mann was belligerent, swearing at the officers, and smelled strongly of alcohol. A pat-down reportedly found several liquor shot bottles in his pockets. Mann was arraigned and released on a $5000 personal recognizance the next day.

  • Brad McGinnis, 36, of 7 King Phillip Drive, was arrested on July 4 at 11:20 a.m. following a warrant for his arrest.
