NK Police Log: Woman Opts for 5-Finger Discount on Black Friday

Man Violates No-Contact Order
Jeremy Peter Thurston, 34, of State Street in North Kingstown, was arrested Nov. 27 at 2:55 a.m. on charges of violating a no contact order.
Thurston allegedly called a woman, who was protected by a no-contact order, approximately 20 times between 11:30 p.m. and 1:45 a.m. that night from a pay phone at the on the corner of Devils Food Road and Post Road. When police arrived at the gas station, they allegedly found Thurston hiding behind the pay phone. Police also gathered recordings of voicemails that Thurston left for the woman.

Thurston was presented as a violator at his arraignment. Unable to post the $20,000 bail, Thurston was brought to the ACI.

NK Woman Opts for 5-Finger Discount on Black Friday
Police arrived at on Black Friday after a woman reported that her purse was stolen. The 72-year-old woman claimed that she put her purse at the end of a clothing rack as she tried on a jacket. When she turned back to retrieve her purse, she found it missing. The store’s manager stated that a woman wearing a black ski jacket and dirty blond hair with a tattoo on her neck had left the building at about the same time as the apparent theft. The manager also noted that the last time this woman was in the store, another purse went missing.
Police walked down toward where they found a woman matching the description. According to reports, she began to act nervous after noticing the officers. When one officer asked to look in her purse, the woman allegedly became upset but acquiesced. Inside, officers found five Yankee Candles and three no-name candles with Homegoods price tags along with a Chrome Azzaro perfume with a TJ Maxx price tag. The total value of the items was $76.99.
When asked to provide a receipt for the candles, the woman began to cry and eventually admitted to shoplifting the items.
According to the woman, she arrived at the plaza with a friend to do shopping. Police contacted the other woman, who then returned to the scene. Inside the woman’s car, police allegedly found a $79.99 Juicy purse in her front seat with a tag on it.
All three stores involved in the alleged shoplifting incidents declined to press charges but requested that a no trespass order be issued against the woman.
NK Woman Arrested on Assault Charges
Josalyn M. Booth, 23, of 121 Sweet Ln. Apt. A in North Kingstown, was arrested Nov. 23 at 4 a.m. on charges of domestic assault and domestic disorderly conduct.
Booth allegedly assaulted a man after he went out for drinks with her friend after work. According to reports, when the victim returned to the apartment Booth was there with a friend drinking margaritas and was “clearly intoxicated.” According to the victim, Booth ripped his shirt and slapped him across the face as the argument escalated after he suggested the two sleep in separate rooms.
