NK Police Log: Woman Refuses to Put Out CIgarette During Arrest

Man Charged With Shoplifting From Job Lot 

Donald G. Fitzgerald, 52, of 6101 Post Rd., Apt. 28 in North Kingstown was arrested Sept. 22 at 1:40 p.m. on charges of shoplifting from Job Lot.

A store manager allegedly saw Fitzgerald attempt to leave the store without paying for a package of steak knives that was hidden in his pants. (The store manager told police that the top of the package was visible from the top of his pants.) According to reports, the manager confronted Fitzgerald and asked him if he was concealing any other items. When Fitzgerald said no, the manager asked him about the bulge in the front of his sweatshirt. When Fitzgerald stated he had no other items, the manager pulled a loaf of sweet bread out from under Fitzgerald’s arm and asked him again, once again receiving another “no” response.

While police searched Fitzgerald, they allegedly found a package containing a padlock under Fitzgerald’s left pocket. Police also found an unopened bottle of baby lotion in his right front pocket. According to reports, the total value of the stolen items was $26.27.

Police Searching For Car Involved in Hit and Run

A 67-year-old woman was sent to the hospital following an apparent hit and run on Devils Food Road on Sept. 22. According to reports, the woman was rear-ended as she tried turning left on to Union Drive. The car was hit with such force that it left the roadway and stopped off the road on a boulder. According to the victim, the other car took off northbound on Devils Foot Road. Police are now looking for an older model, white Lincoln sedan with moderate frontend damage.

Woman Refuses to Put Out Cigarette During Arrest

Teresa J. Greene, 55, of 55 Arcadia Dr. in North Kingstown was arrested Sept. 22 at 9:30 p.m. on charges of resisting arrest and following a bench warrant for her arrest.

Police arrived at Greene’s residence to arrest her following a bench warrant from Third District Court. According to reports, Greene was uncooperative and would not turn around to let police place her into custody. Officers allowed Greene to enter her home to change clothes. According to police, she lit up a cigarette as she was changing clothes and refused to put it out after police told her to do so. She was also allegedly extremely argumentative with officers and continued to yell. According to reports, the refused to put her hands behind her back and put out the cigarette so police could place her in handcuffs. Once in handcuffs, Greene refused to walk to the police cruisers.
