NK Police: Mysterious Gravestone, Mistaken Identity & More

NKHS Student Suspended for Knife Possession

Police confiscated a folding knife from a NKHS student on Dec. 10. According to reports, a teacher saw that a gray Gerber clip knife attached to the 18-year-old student’s pants’ pocket. The student wasn’t aware he was doing anything wrong.  The blade’s size was under the statutory limit of three inches, therefore the teen wasn’t charged. School officials, however, suspended him for five days under school policy. According to reports, the student was cooperative and respectful to both law enforcement and school officials.

Grave Marker Found Behind Gillian’s

An employee of Gillian’s Ale House was cleaning the area around the building when he found a 10-by-14 –inch white grave marker in the bushes. The marker was worn and the only thing readable on the stone was an “L.W.” at the top of the stone. According to reports, police will be contacting town historian Tim Cranston to help determine where the marker belongs.

Stolen Car Found in Park-and-Ride

While checking several cars at the park-and-ride on Ten Rod Road, an NK police officer discovered that an unoccupied Jeep Wrangler was actually a stolen vehicle. According to reports, the car (which appeared to be undamaged) was reported stolen in Lincoln. There was nothing inside the car to help officer identify the car thief. The suspect allegedly did not use a key to start the car.

A Case of Mistaken Identity 

James A. Casey, 40, of 110 Ewing Rd. in North Kingstown was arrested on Dec. 11 at 7:20 p.m. on charges of simple assault, disorderly conduct and following a bench warrant for 4th District Court and another from Superior Court.

Casey allegedly assaulted a 21-year-old man outside his home, striking him in the face. Casey’s wife was able to intervene long enough for the victim to get away and run down the street. According to the victim, Casey had accused him of being his brother from Connecticut and began to push him until he fell to the ground. The victim told police he had just met Casey three days prior for the first time.

When police went into the house to talk to Casey, they discovered he had fled out the back door. Police searched the area and then returned to the residence to get statements from the victim and witnesses, at which point Casey returned to the house.

Frank Forte, 41, of 33 Chiswick Rd. in Warwick was arrested Dec. 10 at 12:38 p.m. on charges of driving with a suspended license.

Sean D. Hames, 26, of 2 Caddy Rock Rd., Apt. D in North Kingstown was arrested Dec. 11 at 9 a.m. on charges driving with a suspended license.
