NK Police Union Holds No Confidence Vote Regarding Chief
The Tuesday vote came a day after the police chief was appointed interim Town Manager.

A day after North Kingstown Police Chief Thomas Mulligan was appointed interim town manager, the union representing the town’s police officers reportedly held a no-confidence vote regarding the chief.
The union did not release an official statement about the vote or any other information, but in a statement, the union’s executive board said “It is the goal of the International Brotherhood of Police Officers, Local 473 to protect the rights contained within our collective bargaining agreement while also looking out for the health and welfare of our members. In an effort to do so, there are steps put in place when issues arise. At this time, we are attempting to handle all matters internally.”
Mulligan declined commenting on the matter.

The vote reportedly was not 100 percent complete and was continuing into Wednesday.
Last year, the union filed an unfair labor practice alleging that Mulligan harassed Menec when he was out sick for two days by driving to Menec’s house to see if he was really home sick and then, after finding out that Menec was in Warwick, had the duty Sergeant order Menec to go to the Warwick police station and have someone there confirm that Menec was in fact in their city.

The state Labor Relations Board ultimately dismissed that case, but the animosity has apparently lingered.
