NKHS Alums Among GoLocalProv’s ‘Best Athletes in RI History’

GoLocalProv names Beisel and Breagy among the best athletes in RI history.

From runners to swimmers to NFL players and everything in between, GoLocalProv has named its “Greatest Athletes in Rhode Island History this past week – and two alumni have made the list.

Taking the top spot for North Kingstown is a name you may have heard – 19-year-old Elizabeth Beisel. The two-time Olympian is competing in London this week and . In her first Olympics in 2008, the 2010 NKHS graduate narrowly missed a spot on the podium after finishing fourth in the same event. Her next event is scheduled for Thursday, in which she’ll compete in the 200-meter backstroke. If she wins the gold medal, she will become the first athlete born and raised in Rhode Island to win an individual gold medal.

GoLocalProv also lists Siobhan Breagy, a 2007 graduate of North Kingstown High School, as the number one athlete out of Exeter in its West Bay edition. Breagy ran track and field at University following her careers at NKHS and Boston College. At URI, Breagy was the top collegian in the 1,000-meter race during the 2012 Sorian Invitational. She is ranked second all-time in URI history for the 1,000 meters for fastest time, breaking a 32-year-old record in the event in her first-place finish during prelims at the ECAC Indoor Championships.
