The North Kingstown Community Chorus Awards Two Scholarships
The scholarship winners will perform during the chorus's spring concert, "What a Wonderful World", May 5 at 7 PM and May 6 at 3 PM.
The North Kingstown Community Chorus is proud to be awarding two music scholarships to two very talented high school seniors who will be continuing their music studies at the college level.
ALISA SMITH, a resident of Jamestown and a four-year Honor Roll senior scholar at North Kingstown High School, has won the North Kingstown Community Chorus Scholarship for Music. She has studied the flute for seven years.
As Principal Flute, Alisa has played with the school's Symphonic and Concert Bands as well as with the Pit Orchestra for their popular musicals. She has participated in many Master Classes as a performer, and has been a very active member of the Rhode Island Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and Ensemble.

Among her many honors, Alisa was invited by Sir James Galway to the Galway Flute Festival in Switzerland in 2016 where she was offered a scholarship, and more recently she played at the Viennese Masters Orchestra Invitational held in Carnegie Hall.
Alisa will attend Carnegie Mellon University in the fall to pursue flute performance and music technology.

During the NKCC Spring Concert on Sunday, May 6 at 3:00 p.m., Alisa will perform Allemande from "Partita in A Minor" by J.S. Bach.
IAN PIERCE, a resident of Wakefield and outstanding senior scholar at South Kingstown High School, has won the North Kingstown Community Chorus Janet Berry Scholarship.
Ian is a violinist and has played with his school's String Ensemble and Pit Orchestra, and is currently serving as Concertmaster of the Symphony Orchestra.
His strong talent has been appreciated in the Rhode Island Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, the URI Symphony Orchestra and String Quartet, as well as their Big Band. He has been accepted at All-State every year of eligibility, and last year he was ranked first in the state. He currently plays with the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra.
Ian will attend the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he plans to major in violin performance. His future vision is to play in an orchestra and to teach professionally.
During the NKCC Spring Concert on Saturday, May 5 at 7:00 p.m., Ian will perform the first movement of Bach's First Sonata in G.
The North Kingstown Community Chorus spring concert, "What a Wonderful World", is performed at North Kingstown High School, 150 Fairway Drive, North Kingstown, RI 02852. Tickets are $10 if purchased or reserved in advance and $15 at the door. Tickets are available at the N.K.
