Woman Charged with Shoplifting Ice Cream Cake and Other Groceries

Caroline O'Neil, 49, of 6480 Post Road was arrested on Tuesday at 2:02 p.m. for allegedly shoplifting a total of $78.44 worth of goods from the Stop & Shop at 90 Frenchtown Road.

Stop & Shop employees watched O'Neil as she allegedly left the store without buying the items, including an ice cream cake, yogurt, a foil pan, a 12-inch frying pan and a can of lasagna. O'Neil reportedly put most of the items in a reusable shopping bag to conceal them. An employee followed her out of the store and asked her for a receipt. O'Neil said she did not have a receipt and was sorry and would not do it again, police say.

Man Arrested for Disorderly Conduct, Striking an Officer

Carlos Ortiz-Fisher, 23, of 991 Victory Hwy. in Greene was arrested Oct. 7 at 2:11 a.m. for disorderly conduct, refusing arrest, and striking an officer.

Police spotted Ortiz-Fisher's car in the breakdown lane of Route 4 near Ten Rod Rd with its hazard lights on. When police approached the vehicle, Ortiz-Fisher said he had pulled over to send some text messages. According to police, Ortiz-Fisher admitted to drinking "five or six" beers at a friend's house in Wakefield.

After failing a field sobriety test, officers arranged for Ortiz-Fisher's transport to the North Kingstown Police Department. When the officers told Ortiz-Fisher that he wasn't under arrest (due to the fact that he was not driving the car when he was found), police say he began cursing at them and refused to enter the cruiser

After shoving one of the officers, Ortiz-Fisher was informed he was under arrest. As officers tried to handcuff him, Ortiz-Fisher got a hand free and struck one of the officer's in the face, say police. Ortiz-Fisher was pepper sprayed after attempts to restrain him failed.

Ortiz-Fisher faces three misdemeanors for disorderly conduct, refusing arrest, and simple assault.
