📰 News we're reading
• North Kingstown Suicide Prevention Policy Unchanged Since (upriseri.com) — North Kingstown's school suicide prevention policy, which state law requires to be reviewed annually, hasn't been updated since 2022 despite a staff review in 2025 that never returned to the advisory panel. Subcommittee members now plan to rework the policy's tone, clarify required procedures, and include adults as well as students before sending revisions to the School Committee after their Oct. 20 meeting.

• Cybertruck owners take a heavy toll on this R.I. bridge — and they pay one too (bostonglobe.com) — A North Kingstown Cybertruck owner is paying $4 each way on the Pell Bridge because his heavy electric pickup exceeds the 8,000‑pound limit for discounted E‑ZPass tolls. His complaints have prompted local Rep. Robert Craven and his son, the district's likely successor, to question whether Rhode Island's toll and fee structure discourages residents from choosing electric vehicles.

• Medical bills can end a music career. This RI group helps keep the music playing. (providencejournal.com) — A Rhode Island nonprofit, Tune In and Tune Up, is helping local musicians cover medical, dental, and mental health costs so they can keep performing, often arranging reduced-rate care and small grants. Co-director Don Culp, who also runs Whole Arts Training Center in North Kingstown, uses his local fitness work and education outreach to push healthier habits for young and working musicians statewide.
