Spring Cleaning? Make sure testing your private well is on that list!
Learn what to test for and how at a free program for private well owners offered by URI and the Rhode Island Dept. of Health.
Your drinking water tastes and smells fine - but, when was the last time you had it tested? And, what should it be tested for? In Rhode Island, one in ten residents get their drinking water from a private well. Private well owners are responsible for testing and maintaining the quality of their own well water. Following the well testing schedule developed by the RI Department of Health helps private well owners protect their family and identify any potential problems.
To assist private well owners in protecting their drinking water, the RI Department of Health and URI will host a free program on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 from 7-8 PM at the Chariho Middle School Cafeteria, at 455B Switch Road, Wood River Junction, RI. We will review what to test for and when, where to have the water tested, and discuss some basic well maintenance tips.
"Workshop participants will learn about substances that can affect well water, why they are a concern, how to arrange for a well water test, and well water treatment options," said Alyson McCann, with URI Cooperative Extension's Water Quality Program. Educational handouts and water testing kits from the RI Dept. of Health will be available for participants. Following the workshop, experts will be available to answer additional questions.
