North Kingstown’s Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition
On May 12, members of North Kingstown’s Prevention Coalition will participate in Project Sticker Shock starting off at Wickford Package on West Main Street in Wickford, then proceeding to Colonial Liquors on Post Road, then to Kingston Liquors and ending with Quaker Lane Liquors on South County Trail.
Project Sticker Shock is a program that raises awareness of underage drinking by reminding adults (21 and older) about the law regarding alcohol to minors. Members of the Coalition, will be placing stickers on multi packs of alcohol. We would like to thank all of the owners of these local alcohol retailers for their support of this community project.

The sticker’s message is: “Know the Law; providing Alcohol to a Minor is Illegal. Conviction could result in fines up to $2,500 and/or up to one year in jail.”
Underage drinking is in part a youth problem, but it’s also an adult issue. Over half of all high school age drinkers get alcohol from an adult, according to SAMHSA’s (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) National Survey on Drug Use and Health.

North Kingstown’s Prevention Coalition’s long established partnerships with local law enforcement, town administrators, schools and business owners help spread a clear and consistent message about underage drinking. These responsible business owners will make North Kingstown a better place by letting townspeople know that providing alcohol to minors is not in the best interest of our community.
