Sheehan: Thank you, Voters!

By James C. Sheehan, Senator, Rhode Island General Assembly.

Dear Editor,

I would like to thank all of those who voted for me in my reelection to the RI State Senate. I wish also to thank all of those who kindly hosted a “Sheehan for Senate” billboard or a yard sign.

We are fortunate to live in a beautiful state along with great neighbors. But, that is not enough. In the upcoming session, I will strive to redouble our efforts to provide more opportunities to our residents to maintain and or improve their quality of life here in the Ocean State. This will require continued investments in infrastructure and education. It will also mean finding ways to further incentivize job development and to improve our overall business climate. Of course, government itself needs to function more efficiently and effectively to be a true partner in this endeavor.

As your voice in state government, I will specifically work to gain passage of legislation to reward businesses for job growth as well as provide tax relief for new-business start-ups. Further, I will continue to push for less government red tape and more efficient expenditure of taxpayer dollars. Lastly, I will not rest until the General Assembly once again operates under the state Code of Ethics. This will help restore a measure of trust in government that is sorely needed these days. Without this trust we cannot have the good leadership required to move our state forward.

Locally, I will work to provide greater funding for education, especially Full-Day Kindergarten as well as to secure a fairer share of beach parking fees for host communities of our state beaches.
