Unless you've taken up residence under a rock somewhere (or have been engrossed in catching up on all the seasons of Dexter), you know that renewable energy has become a hot button issue, especially here in North Kingstown.
For more than a year, have come under . Just four months after the approval of a new wind energy law, the North Kingstown Town Council after said outcry. With the town , pending further study from statewide planning, the fate of wind energy in North Kingstown is up in the air. (No pun intended.)
Then there's solar energy, which is just now getting some attention from town officials. In August, North Kingstown became the home to the largest solar farm in the state as . Earlier this week, the Town Council began discussions on a . The state's Department of Environmental Management recently announced that it plans to install solar panels on nine of its facilities, including the Lafayette Fish Hatchery in North Kingstown.
