Zoning Board to Discuss Proposed Dunkin' Donuts in Wickford

The North Kingstown Zoning Board of Review will discuss a proposal to bring Dunkin' Donuts to the Wickford area at its Tuesday night meeting. In August, the North Kingstown Planning Commission gave the project an unfavorable recommendation to the zoning board, citing traffic concerns in the already congested intersection.

The project would be situated on the half-acre of vacant land nestled at the intersection of Ten Rod Road and Phillips Street. The parcel in question is adjacent to the medical building at 320 Phillips Street. The proposed 3,000 sq. ft. building would be a Dunkin' Donuts on one side and another retail shop to be determined. The plan calls for 25 parking spots and would not include drive-through service.

Though a traffic study of the intersection projected the inclusion of Dunkin' Donuts to have "minimal impact" on the traffic flow, members of the North Kingstown Planning Commission questioned its validity. 

Following the planning board's negative recommendation, the issue now goes to the zoning board who will approve or deny the application – submitted by Theresa Amaral and Robert and David Batista. The zoning board meets Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the town hall conference room.
