Portsmouth Woman Charged With Fraudulently Obtaining Public Assistance: Cops (patch.com) — Portsmouth residents are learning that a 39-year-old local woman has been charged with fraudulently obtaining public assistance, along with securing over $10,000 in property by false pretenses. State police say she surrendered at headquarters, was arrested and arraigned, then released on $20,000 personal recognizance, following an investigation by the Financial Crimes Unit.

Construction completed at Portsmouth LNG facility (eastbayri.com) — Construction is now finished at the controversial LNG facility on Old Mill Lane in Portsmouth, solidifying its role in backing up Aquidneck Island's gas supply. State regulators approved the project despite strong objections from nearby residents and town boards over noise, traffic, and industrial use in a residential neighborhood, leaving an ongoing tension between regional reliability and local impacts.
   

3. A Super Tuesday in high school games across RI. Here's who won (newportri.com) — Portsmouth High's girls volleyball team fell 3-1 to East Greenwich, despite strong efforts from players like Peyton Winn, Kameron Lehner, and Audrey Abedon. The statewide roundup also notes Portsmouth will host North Kingstown tonight at 6:30 p.m., giving local fans a quick chance to see the Patriots bounce back at home.
   

4. $271 million contract awarded to rebuild Pier 1 at Naval Station Newport for Coast Guard cutters (whatsupnewp.com) — Major federal investment at Naval Station Newport will bring new Coast Guard cutters and NOAA research ships to nearby Coddington Cove, with planners already working with Newport, Middletown, and Portsmouth to prepare. Expect more federal employees, military families, and support staff in the area over the next several years as construction continues through 2030.
