9 Rhode Island Primary Election Races May Be Heading For A Recount

Most requests come from city council challengers in Providence, but three State House races could also see a recount. Here's what to know.

PROVIDENCE, RI — The Rhode Island Board of Elections will consider recount requests for nine primary election races, the board announced on Thursday.

Most of the races up for consideration come from Providence City Council challengers, including in Ward 3, where Corey Jones lost to Susan Anderbois by just 15 votes in the race to replace mayoral candidate Nirva LaFortune. However, three State House races will also be up for consideration when the board gets together on Monday.

According to officials, the board will meet on Monday at 9:30 a.m. to consider requests for a recount. For those that are approved for recounts, the votes will be counted again on Monday. The board will then reconvene on Tuesday to certify the final primary election results.
