Body Found In Smith Street Apartment Building: State Police

PROVIDENCE, RI—State police said Friday a body was discovered in a Smith Street apartment building, and an investigation is underway. The building is 1245 Smith St. State police said the body was found earlier Friday but did not specify the time.

"An investigation by members of the State Police Major Crimes Unit and Forensic Services Unit led to the discovery of the body in a stairwell at the apartment building," state police said.

"The state Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting an autopsy to confirm the person’s identity and determine the cause and manner of death," police said.
