PROVIDENCE, RI — When it comes to presidential politics, the mayors are sticking together. On Wednesday, Providence mayor Jorge Elorza became one of more than 50 other mayors across the country to endorse Pete Buttigieg for president, announcing his support in an op-ed for USA Today.

"Pete has the life experience and the executive experience to be the unite(r)-in-chief that our country needs," Elorza said. "I've seen Pete exemplify the best of what it means to be a mayor, from discussing big ideas to having the practical know-how to make them a reality. Pete's entire life story sets him apart from the field and makes him the best positioned candidate to take on Trump and win back the White House."

Buttigieg's campaign is launching a nationwide "Mayors for Pete" initiative, calling for mayors and former mayors to garner support in their communities for "Mayor Pete's" White House bid.
