Federal Grand Jury Indicts Providence Man On Fentanyl Distribution Charge
The fentanyl had been shipped from California, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
PROVIDENCE, RI — A Providence man was indicted by a federal grand jury on a fentanyl distribution charge, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.
Kelvin German Luperon De Jesus, 32, was charged with attempted possession with the intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl, according to a media release from the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Luperon De Jesus, 32, was arrested in October. His arraignment has yet to be scheduled, the release said.

In October, "Luperon De Jesus attempted to obtain a package that was shipped from California to Rhode Island and contained fentanyl," according to the release.
The package was flagged as suspicious and Drug Enforcement Administration agents tested the contents and determined that the package contained about a kilogram of fentanyl, the release said.

"Two days later, the defendant was arrested by DEA agents as part of an undercover investigation," per the release.
