PROVIDENCE, RI — A former Rhode Island Boy Scouts leader is accused of sexually assaulting a young boy multiple times nearly four decades ago, according to a grand jury indictment released Friday.
Michael Chalk, 61, of Pawtucket, is charged with two counts of first-degree sexual assault in connection to the incidents that took place between 1982 and 1984, Attorney General Peter Neronha said in a news release. Chalk was arraigned in Providence County Superior Court on Friday.
According to prosecutors, Chalk was the leader of a Central Falls Boy Scouts troop when the assaults took place. The victim, who was under 13, was a member of the troop.

In 1999, Chalk was tried and convicted of several counts of first-degree child molestation and sexual assault against three minor male victims, all of whom were members of the Boy Scouts. He was sentenced to serve 20 years in prison followed by a 20-year suspended sentence.
