RI Primary Election 2022: Deadlines, Voting Details In Providence

PROVIDENCE, RI — Primary elections in Rhode Island are fast approaching, and Patch has you covered on where to vote, how to vote and other important checkmarks before you cast a ballot.

Providence residents are able to cast a ballot early, mail-in their votes, or vote at their polling place. Here's what to know:

Who and What Am I Voting For?

  • Governor: Five Democrats and three Republicans are vying for the role of governor, after current Gov. Daniel McKee took over for Gina Raimondo when she was appointed as US Commerce Secretary. The Democrats are: McKee, Helena Buonanno Foulkes, Matthew A. Brown, Nellie M. Gorbea and Luis Daniel Munoz. The Republicans are: David Darlington, Ashley Kalus and Jonathan Riccitelli.
  • Mayor: With sitting Mayor Jorge Elorza term limited, the only primary race this election season is between three Democrats looking to rise to the city's mayoral office. They are: Brett Smiley, Gonzalo Cuervo and Nirva LaFortune.
  • City Council: A number of city council races are competitive this year. Here are the wards set to host primaries, according to Ballotpedia: Ward 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14 and 15.
  • Also on the ballot are races for U.S. Congress, a local ballot item and representatives in the state senate and state house.
