3 Killed, Including 2 Bryant University Students, In Smithfield Wrong-Way Crash: Reports

The two Bryant students were killed in the crash with the wrong-way driver, according to reports.

SMITHFIELD, RI — Two Bryant University students were killed in a crash with a wrong-way driver, who also died in the fiery wreck, according to reports.

Chelsea, Massachusetts, resident Denis Aguilar Campos, 41, was driving a Ford pickup truck south on northbound Route 146 shortly before 12:30 a.m. Sunday, WCVB reported.

"As Campos approached Route 116, his vehicle struck a Chevrolet Tahoe, which was traveling north in the high-speed lane, head-on. Both vehicles were engulfed in flames," the WCVB story said.

"Campos was pronounced dead at the scene, as was the driver of the Tahoe, 20-year-old Jaylin Rainford, of Randolph, Massachusetts, and a passenger in the Tahoe, 20-year-old Chiemelie Okonkwo, of Lawrenceville, Georgia," according to 10 Boston.

Bryant University confirmed that Rainford and Okonkwo were juniors at the school, per Boston 25 News.

“'We hold Jaylin and David, and all who loved them, close in our thoughts and hearts, and we remain committed to compassion, connection, and care as we support one another through this tragedy,' University said in a social media post," according to Boston 25.
