38 Studios "Take 2"

Private industry once again is asking RI legislators for your tax dollars, this time it's the "Superman" Tower.

Tiverton, RI, May 5, 2016– Listen up folks. 38 Studios, truck toll gantries, failed/forced marketing logo, corrupt legislative grants, 700 dollar haircuts....what do all of these have in common? What ties all of this misuse of money together?

YOUR hard earned tax dollars are at "work" for all the wrong reasons.

Now your RI legislators are likely at it again, this time it's the iconic Industrial Trust Tower sentimentally nicknamed the "Superman Building" because it resembles a skyscraper from the 1950's that Superman leaped over in a single bound. Nostalgic, yes, I understand. But how much is nostalgia worth when your state sits at an incredible 9.1% unemployment rate, good enough for 1st in New England and 6th in the entire United States.

The reality is people can't find enough high paying sustainable jobs to keep up with our state's frivolous and wildly out of control spending of your tax dollars. We are not personal ATM's that RI legislators can dip into whenever they please and clean us out.

High Rock Development has taken ownership of the Superman building, a private company. What they have in mind is a couple hundred high-end luxury apartments, sounds like pie in the sky if you ask me. Let's pretend that High Rock, a private company, was able to furnish these apartments...who, in this economy, will be able to afford the monthly rent?

To top it all off, High Rock is asking for 39 MILLION dollars of UNSPECIFIED assistance from the state, assistance in the form of once again...your tax dollars. On top of the cool 39 mil they would like, they are asking for another 10-15 million dollars’ worth in tax breaks bringing the grand total to roughly 54 million big ones. I wish I was privy to such tax breaks, unfortunately that doesn't happen for the common men and women of this great state that put in the real work, trying to stimulate and keep the economy afloat. So why are we are taxed at such ridiculous rates that allow our corrupt legislators to play "Monopoly" with our money? We need to remind those in the State House that this isn't a board game and we are tired of losing because of rash starry eyed decisions when for example Curt Schilling, a New England sports hero asked for 75 million of again your tax dollars and practically received everything he asked for. A video game company of all things. Good old 38 Studios...now bankrupt and we are left with tab, on the hook again.

We CANNOT allow history to repeat itself with the "Superman Building" proposal. We again will be left with the bill garnering national attention once again as the rest of the country collectively shrugs it's shoulders and says, "There goes Rhode Island again."

We need to break the cycle that has plagued this state and our wallets for decades. We need people at Smith Hill to stand up to the corruption and exuberant spending that our Majority Democratic lawmakers so willingly spend with no foresight of the inevitable consequences.

Nostalgia is nice, I still have a "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle" lunch box worth a few dollars. But I bought that lunch box with my own money saved up with my weekly allowance.

Don't allow our "leaders" to blindly throw your dollars over the fiscal cliff once again.

I will do my part, when elected as State Representative for District 71, to stand against the corrupt and the irresponsible allocation of your hard earned tax dollars.

We have to be the State House's kryptonite and say NO to the Superman "unspecified" 54 million dollar money pit that legislators are sure to dip their hands into.

Break the Cycle, it has to stop.
