“Kitchen Stories” is a Norwegian film directed by Bent Hamer and was nominated for an Academy Award in 2004. It is a subtle comedy that tells the story of a Swedish efficiency researcher who is sent to observe a Norwegian farmer in his kitchen, and the unlikely friendship that is formed despite their inability to interact with each other. It takes place in a post-WWII setting, and is inspired by the research that was performed on the efficiency of the Swedish housewife.
