From Tiverton to PawSox Idol
Tiverton resident Evan Kinnane is a contestant in the 2011 PawSox Idol.
At age six, Evan Kinnane had no idea that his sister's "Bye Bye Birdie" audition could change his life forever. After deciding spur-of-the-moment to audition as well, Kinnane won the role of Randall, launching his singing career.
Now an accomplished singer, dancer, and actor at age 15, Evan is a participant in the 2011 Pawtucket Sox Idol competition. Following the model of "American Idol," the contestants will perform at each Friday PawSox home game in groups. Based on fan voting, it will be determined if they proceed to the next round.
Kinnane heard about the competition from the chorus director at Tiverton High School, where he is a rising sophomore. After singing a cappella in front of three judges at Rhode Island Mall, he received an e-mail telling him that he had won a place into the contest.

For Kinnane, however, voice competitions are routine. In the past he has sung for Fall River Celebrates America and Rhode Island's Got Talent. His dance team will also be performing at the Turn It Up Dance Nationals competition in Cape Cod this summer.
Kinnane is a member of multiple choruses, including the Rhode Island All State Chorus. He also practices with his voice teacher, Jeanie Raposa, regularly. Together, they have been rehearsing for Kinnane's performances this summer.

Perhaps because of the extent of his experience, Kinnane did not seem nervous before his PawSox Idol debut last Friday.
"I mean, there are always these nerves," he said.
Kinnane sang "Landslide" by Fleetwood Mac on Friday. Fan voting will decide his continuation in the competition.
Regardless of the outcome, however, the possibilities for Kinnane's future seem endless.
"I want to continue with singing, theater, and dance and go to college for it," he said. "I may even want to direct theater."
