Kids Feel The Love at Valentine Cookie Camp

Cookies and crafts abound at the holiday-themed event held on Saturday at the Little Compton Community Center.

The was full of hearts, flowers and glitter as local kids enjoyed a Saturday morning at Valentine Cookie Camp. Children made Valentines and baked cookies to celebrate Valentine’s Day, which is today, Feb. 14.

Cookies were cut into different love-themed shapes, including hearts, daisies and tulips. Red, pink and white sprinkles were added to pink frosting and topped off with the classic holiday treat-candy hearts. Not only did the kids add the candy hearts to the cookies, they also snuck a few for themselves.

Resident Quaker Case was at Valentine Cookie Camp with her granddaughters, Brenna Malloy, 2, and Maeve Malloy, 6. While Brenna decorated a heart cookie, Case shared her Valentine’s Day plans.

“We’ll probably make a special dinner at home," she said. "Light some candles.”

Case and her Valentine will be celebrating their 45th wedding anniversary this August.

“My friend Preston at school is my valentine,” said Maeve.

Noel Pereira, 9, had no problem chatting about her Valentine, Richard.

“He’s my best friend,” she said. “He loves race cars so I bought him one for Valentine’s Day.”

Pereira said she also plans to give him the Valentine she made at camp.

While some children had schoolmate sweethearts, many claimed their moms will be their valentines this year.

“I’ll probably give this card to my mother,” said resident Emma Dwinell, 13.

Her mom Carla echoed those sentiments, “I’ll be celebrating Valentine’s Day by buying chocolates for my children.”

Resident Cindy Carr was volunteering at cookie camp while her daughter Ellie, 7, enjoyed the festivities.

“I’m hanging with the kids on Monday,” said Carr. Her daughter chose to give her homemade card to her big brother, Will.

Even though the children participating were primarily elementary school students, they all had unique opinions about the year's most romantic holiday.

“Nobody’s too young to have a Valentine," said Maeve, summing it up.
