Living Literature has created an exciting 50 minute readers theatre piece from Derek Miller’s 2013 CWA John Creasey Dagger Award novel, Norwegian By Night. Three actors, Tanya Anderson, Kelly Seigh and Barry Press, bring the main characters and events to life for Reading Across RI 2015.

Sheldon Horowitz, a 82-year-old widower, and former Marine sniper in the Korean War, has left New York for Oslo to live with the granddaughter he raised and her Norwegian husband. One morning, their upstairs neighbor flees a violent man with her son. Sheldon spies her desperation through his peephole and recalls the Europeans who saw the same and kept their doors locked. But in this country of only one thousand Jews, old age and circumstances are rekindling Sheldon’s guilt over his only son’s death in Vietnam, and impelling him to save the boy thrust into his care, as he is hunted by the boy’s killer and the police who are trying to save them both. This presentation can be enjoyed by those who both have and have not read the book.

Living Literature is a featured partner in the Reading Across Rhode Island 2015 program, presented by the Rhode Island Center for the Book and the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities (RICH).
