Rescuers Pull Two Fishermen From Water after Boat Capsizes, Third Still Missing

The U.S. Coast Guard and officials from Little Compton, Middletown and other departments have been searching through the night.

Two fishermen were rescued and a third is still missing after their boat capsized in the waters off Sakonnet Point in Little Compton.

Little Compton Fire Chief Richard Petrin said crews were called at around 11:30 p.m. when relatives said the fishermen had not come home.

The Narragansett Bay Marine Task Force went into action and soon found one man hanging on to the rocks at the Sakonnet Lighthouse. He was rescued with help from a Middletown rescue swimmer and a Coast Guard helicopter and brought to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment.

Officials are hopeful that the man is OK because he was wearing a personal floatation device.

The boat reportedly capsized after the stern broke.
