Rogers Co-Op Skates Past Middletown, 3-1
The Islanders out-shot the Vikings in three periods, but the Vikings made their shots count, defeating the Islanders 3-1.
(4-4-1) and Middletown High School (6-3) faced off in a Division II South matchup at St. George's School on Saturday night. The Vikings, comprised of several students and Rocky Hill School students from Warwick in a hockey co-op, scored twice in the first period and protected the lead for the remainder of the game, winning 3 - 1.
The Vikings scored first, only 1:24 into the game, on an unassisted goal by freshman Dan Gunning. The goal was the young Vikings defenseman's first of the season. The 1-0 lead would last well into the first period, until the Islanders struck back to tie the game on goal from senior Ian Larcom, assisted by senior Josh Saunders. Larcom's goal is his fourth of the season and Saunders records his 2nd assist. The score came 13:39 into the first period.
Forty-one seconds later the Vikings reclaimed the lead as freshman Connor Rubin and junior Jake Albernaz assisted on a Luke Leys goal. The goal is Leys eighth of the season, a team high, while Rubin assisted for the second time and Albernaz for his first of the season. The first period of play ended with the Vikings up, 2-1.

The Islanders recorded 11 shots on goal, the Vikings eight in the first period.
The second period of play produced a back and forth battle of possession and puck control. Both goalies, Redmond Brow for Rogers and William Coogan for Middletown, displayed their athleticism and talents defending the nets.

With just seconds remaining in the second period, Rogers took a two goal lead on a junior Sam Hallowell score, assisted by both sophomore Ben Sanford and senior Ryan Kelley. The goal is Hallowell's second of the season. The Islanders once again out shot the Vikings in the period, 11 - 10.
No players scored in the third period. The game ended 3-1.
The Rogers Vikings improved to a 4-4-1 record and the Islanders of Middletown to 6-3.

The Vikings will face Toll Gate High School at URI on Friday Jan. 21st. The Islanders will skate against St. Raphael Academy on Saturday Jan. 15th, which will be held at Mount St. Charles Academy Arena in Woonsocket.
