Sogkonate Garden Club Extends Thanks for International Coastal Clean-Up
The Sogkonate Garden Club would like thank all the volunteers who donated their time to clean the Little Compton coastline for International Coastal Cleanup on Saturday, September 17th.
The 68 people who participated at our beaches collected 1,200 pounds of trash and litter. This year we found fewer cigarette butts (947) but more beverage containers (776) and alot of heavy rope. Geoff Dennis did his usual wonderful job of cleaning East and West Islands (4 large trash bags fill) as well as collecting 10 lobster pots in various locations and took everything to the transfer station. The Sakonnet Yacht Club aided in the cleanup process by providing a gathering spot for the area volunteers. Once again we want to thank Kristin Brown Close who comes from Vermont each year to run the cleanup at Sakonnet Point. We also want to thank all our Little Compton residents who make a year round effort to keep our beaches litter free.
