The Good the Bad and the Ugly

Sogkonate Garden Club Symposium

On Saturday, September 10, 2016, the Sogkonate Garden Club will sponsor a free one day workshop entitled The Good, the Bad and the Ugly: Managing Your Property’s Wild Side. The speaker program starts at 9am at the Little Compton Community Center and continues with afternoon tours and demonstrations from 1-3 pm at private properties in Little Compton. Lunch and plant sales are at noon.

Morning speakers are Carol Trocki - Conservation Biologist, David Gregg – Executive Director, RI Natural History Survey, Daune Peckham – Landscape Designer, Rebecca Brown - Goatscaper, Jeremy Allen – Gardener, and Jason Burchard – Sakonnet Tree, Inc. In the afternoon, two private properties in Little Compton will have tours and demonstrations as examples of habitats discussed in the morning.

The focus of the day is to learn about alien invasive species (the bad) and methods to remove them (the ugly). Once removal is achieved, how to create attractive, sustainable and native habitats within a landscape plan (the good) will be discussed. This is a rare opportunity to hear and see unique ways to manage your property’s wild side.
