Tiverton Artist Featured In 'This is Bristol' Exhibit
Tiverton painter Nancy Shand is now featured at Gallery Eleven Fine Art in Bristol, which is holding the exhibit "This is Bristol" until the end of the month.
in Bristol welcomes a Tiverton painter and Bristol sculptor as new members to the gallery. Among 10 other local artists, they are participating in the "This is Bristol" exhibit this month, which continues through June 26 at the 11 State Street gallery in Bristol.
According to the gallery's Public Relations Chairwoman Kris Donovan, Tiverton's Nancy Shand's work deals with a variety of painting media, and her "unmistakable style" reflects through her subtle coloration, complex composition and intensive detail. Her work is displayed at many private and corporate collections across the country and in Europe. She dwells on landscapes in her work, real or imagined, and has maintained artist studios in Rhode Island and New Jersey for more than three decades. She has worked in a variety of media ranging from oil on canvas to pastels, mixed media and, on occasion, sculpture. Shand recently moved back to Rhode Island permanently, and her most recent work concentrates on the surrounding land and seascapes just outside her door.
Ellen Blomgren, of Bristol, is a ceramic sculptor and art educator, and is a visiting artist at many community centers, schools and hospitals around the state, according to Donovan. She teaches ceramic sculpture at Rhode Island School of Design for a cooperative extension youth program. Donovan added that Blomgren has led many public installation projects, including a recent one at Roger Williams Park in Providence. She also owns Mudstone Studios in Warren.
