Tiverton Student's Google Design on Display at Providence Children's Musuem

The following is a press release from the Providence Children's Museum:

From June 1 to 30, Providence Children’s Museum will exhibit the artwork of the Rhode Island finalists in the 2012 Doodle 4 Google competition, including senior "A Loooong Trip." 

Over 114,000 budding artists in grades K-12 nationwide participated in the competition to redesign Google’s homepage logo, with submissions from across the state. The 10 finalists – from Central Falls, Cumberland, Middletown, Providence, Tiverton, Wakefield, Warwick and Westerly – represent the top RI entries in each age group.

The doodles will be on view daily in June from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Providence Children's Museum’s atrium. The museum is also open free on Friday evenings in June from 5 to 8 p.m.for MetLife Family Friday, sponsored by MetLife Foundation.

In celebration of the exhibit, families will explore drawing and doodling activities in Discovery Studio, the Museum’s hands-on art and science exploration space:

• Texture Doodle: Make marks on textured surfaces using an array of writing and drawing tools.
• Think Outside the Line: Explore and draw different types of lines (swirly, zigzag, scribble, wide, thin).
• Draw What You See: Investigate and draw fascinating items and natural objects.
• Partner Drawing: Make a doodle with a friend.
• Make a Mural: Add drawings and scribbles to a large collaborative mural.

Activities will be held through June 15 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM and are free with Museum admission of $8.50 per person. 

Doodle 4 Google is one of several efforts by Google to encourage and celebrate the creativity of young people by asking students to create their own Google doodle. The theme this year was “If I could travel in time, I’d visit...” Doodle 4 Google gives students a blank canvas to harness their curiosity and imagine the past, present, and/or future anywhere in the world. The doodles were judged by a team of Googlers and then guest judges – such as Katy Perry, Phineas and Ferb creator and executive producer Jeff “Swampy” Marsh, and recording artist Jordin Sparks – helped choose the top doodles.
