📰 News we're reading
• Why RI's busiest airport has complicated Warwick's police drone plan (providencejournal.com) — Warwick police are working to launch a first-response drone program that would give officers real-time aerial views during emergencies, but federal airspace restrictions around T.F. Green Airport are slowing approvals. The department has secured one key FAA waiver and a three-year contract for drone equipment, and hopes to start flights within about two months once remaining permissions and roof preparations are finished.

• Police say armed security guard prompted police response at Warwick Mall (coastalabc.com) — Warwick police briefly locked down the area around Warwick Mall on Monday after a 911 caller reported a man in tactical gear openly carrying a gun near Target, but officers soon confirmed he was an armed security guard on legitimate duty. After a thorough search with mall security, police cleared the scene, declared there was no threat, and normal shopping quickly resumed.

• RIPTA Studies Light Rail, Rapid Bus Routes Connecting Providence Metro Cities (rock929rocks.com) — RIPTA is studying major new light rail and rapid bus options that could eventually link Providence, Cranston, and other metro cities directly to CCRI's Warwick campus or T.F. Green Airport. While construction is years away and costs could reach into the billions, planners say improved transit could boost ridership, housing, and jobs along routes that may end right in Warwick.
