Warwick Woman Charged With Fraudulently Using Food Stamps: Cops

The Warwick woman was also charged with obtaining more than $10,000 worth of property by false pretenses or personation, police said.

WARWICK, RI — A Warwick woman was charged with fraudulently using food stamps, among other offenses, police said.

Melanie Merritt, 45, was also charged with fraudulently obtaining more than $500 of public assistance, obtaining more than $10,000 worth of property by false pretenses or personation, and giving a false documents to an agent, employee or public official, the Rhode Island State Police said in a media release.

Merritt surrendered to police, was processed at the Hope Valley Barracks, arraigned by a justice of the peace and released with a Third District Court date, according to police.
