Spotlight on Abstract Expressionist Erika Arneson By Mr. Charity Christopher Annino
This Article is about painter Erika Arneson and her artistic world of fantasy,
When this Erika Arneson has a brush in her hand she wields it like a magic wand opening portals of worlds that the normal human eye cannot see on a canvas. So where does the source of this shy red head’s power derive from? Erika grew up on the west coast at a young age she started painting. When she was 19 she discovered the painting style of abstract expression which Jackson Pollock made famous “I wanted to express myself and felt that was the only outlet.” She hasn’t had any training in abstract art just a lot of encouragement. “no one has sat me down and taught me how to do it but my teachers liked it I went to school to be trained with traditional art but I broke into the abstract.” Erika attended The University of Hartford, Hartford Art School where she graduated with a BA in Fine Arts with a emphasize in painting.
“Abstract expressionism lends
itself to exploring the internal realm of emotions and ideas. I feel our
internal world make up the most important reality in our lives. The things that we think about and how we
feel about the world effects our lives more importantly then most external
realities” explained Erika. Erika has turned into an artistic machine nothing
stops her life fuels her she never has a block she is constantly expressing herself
in new and fascinating ways through her paintings.
Her art has been featured in many
shows and she has been in many galleries throughout New England. She is currently based out of Middletown
Connecticut but she will be leaving to go to Portland Oregon in August. “They
have an awesome art scene right now. No, I won't miss CT but I really
appreciate my experiences here and the people I have met... grown a lot in CT
and. I was so shy when I first moved here. The school s here are excellent, CT
has really high standards which I do appreciate I would not be the same if I'd
stayed in CA. Her paintings are powerful you get sucked into a world that you
never knew existed.
