Blog: State Website Improperly Used to Endorse Obama. Well Gov. Chafee?

Governor Chafee is misusing a RI government website for blatant political and self-serving purposes. He needs to be called out on it and the practice stopped.

The Internet has forever changed how we communicate with each other. The new media (this site, other blogs, social media, and podcasts) has altered how we consider the traditional media (newspapers, radio, tv) and certainly how we get the news. I turned to the world wide web (www.)'s YouTube to find a video about RI Governor Lincoln Chafee (I-RI)'s address to the Democratic National Convention. That alone is not surprising, millions do it everyday.

What was surprising was the video I found featuring Chafee and President Obama, with the Governor endorsing the President and stating that he would be addressing the DNC's convention yesterday (9/4). At the end of the video "infomercial" I was shocked to read "www.gov.ri.gov" a link to the State's taxpayer paid website.

How can this be? This is a clear violation of partisan, political use of publicly funded resources. I strongly object to it. The date that it was published to YouTube was August 30! The practice is wrong - regardless of party or personality. So much for a higher standard. Stop the practice.
