The Allure of Maine's Coast

From Kittery in the south to Lubec in the north, Maine's coastline offers great vistas to visitors and residents alike.

From Kittery, Maine's southern point to Lubec, the easternmost point of the contiguous 48 States, the coastline of the Pine Tree State is varied but all beautiful. Over the past several years my wife and I have come to greatly enjoy Portland, Maine's largest city and the legal, banking and insurance capital of the state.

With Casco Bay and the outer island as a backdrop, one need travel but 10 minutes by car to the neighboring community of Cape Elizabeth to appreciate several great coastal parks.  Two Lights State Park is frequently overlooked by tourists (until this blog!) and features huge boulders that look like wood.

Portland Head Light is, as the name suggests, a lighthouse at the mouth of Casco Bay.  The lighthouse was commissioned by George Washington in 1791.  Fort Williams is a former Army post that has, since 1965 been operated without entrance fee by the Town of Cape Elizabeth.  Today, it is enjoyed by thousands of visitors.

Maine has a special place in our family.  It is varied and always changing.  3 1/2 hours from Woonsocket, it is an accessible place to visit, explore and enjoy.  Thanks to an unseasonably mild February, we did!
