City Council List Grows, But No Competition For Mayor, School Committee
With just three days left for filing, Woonsocket has one candidate for mayor and two candidates running for five open spots on the School Committee.

Candidates for Woonsocket's municipal elections began registering with the city's Board of Canvassers on Monday and with just three days left for declaration of candidacy, incumbent Mayor Leo Fontaine has no challengers for the position.
School Committee members Vimala Phongsavanh and Anita McGuire Forcier are also currently unopposed, as the only two candidates who have registered to run for the five member board. Candidates can register at City Hall until 4 p.m. on Tuesday, August 30.
The race for City Council, meanwhile, looks as though it may be quite competitive. Of the seven incumbents, only has stated the his name will not be on the ballot this November. John Ward, Daniel Gendron, Roger Jalette, and Christopher Beauchamp have registered their bids throughout the week and a total of eight additional candidates had registered bids as of Thursday afternoon.

, and Michael Moniz made their stop at City Hall on Monday, the first day residents were officially permitted to file paperwork.
On Tuesday, Roland Michaud a vocal citizen voice in local government who has served on city commissions to study expansion of water and wastewater systems, added his name to the list.

Kathryn Leblanc, a member of this year's Charter Review Commission who also serves on the executive board of the Woonsocket Taxpayer Coalition made her bid for City Council known on Wednesday.
Three more candidates came forward on Thursday. Chairman of the Woonsocket School Committee Marc Dubois, who had not previously announced his political intentions for 2011, is seeking a spot on the council. , director of security for the Woonsocket Housing Authority also made his bid official as did newcomer Ermie Lee Ulmer.
