Handanyan Brothers Key To Mounties Victory Over Warriors
Mount Saint Charles boys lacrosse team defeats Wheeler.
The Mount Saint Charles boys lacrosse team traveled to Wheeler Farm on Saturday afternoon to take on Wheeler High School. It was a high scoring affair, with the Mounties prevailing 11-5.
In the early stages of the game, neither team could find the back of the net, with both goalies making some key saves. The Mounties struck late in the first quarter, scoring two goals in the last two and a half minutes.
Junior Drew Lambert scored the first goal and then three Mount players combined on a phenomenal play. Goalie Michael Rocchio tossed it down the left sideline on a long pass to junior Christopher Brown. Brown then dished it off to junior Ben Handanyan who found the back of the net with only 43 seconds left in the first. Handanyan finished with 4 goals and 2 assists on the day.

After Handanyan scored early in the second quarter, Wheeler dominated possession for the last six minutes of play in the first half. However, Rocchio made several nice saves and the Warriors were not able to score.
Less than a minute into the third quarter, Wheeler finally got on the board. Nick Zigerelli assisted on Adrian Stone's goal, cutting their deficit to 3-1.

Their momentum was short lived, as the Mounties answered with three goals in the next five minutes. Handanyan scored two and assisted on the third.
The Warriors scored to cut MSC's lead to 6-2, but the Mounties again responded within the minute, further widening the gap.
Wheeler's Stone scored two power play goals early in the forth quarter, and the Mounties lead was trimmed to 7-4. However, that was the closest the Warriors would get, as freshman Alex Handanyan scored two consecutive goals, and the lead became 9-4.
The Mounties would eventually win the game 11-5, improving their record to 2-4 on the year, with three of the losses coming against tough competition, Division I opponents. The loss drops Wheeler to 1-3 on the season.
Speaking about the choice to play against Division I teams when the Mounties compete in Division II, head coach Dave Roderick said, "I want my kids to be able to see how the game is played and how fast it can be played."
"We continue to progress and have a very young team," the coach added.
