Memorial Day Five: Parade, Cars, Circus and Space Simians

It's Memorial Day - Here are some things to know:

Good morning, Woonsocket. It's Memorial Day, so make sure you pay respect to you local veterans, put out the flag, and check out today's five things to know:

Parade - This year's Memorial Day parade begins at 10 a.m. at the corner of Clinton and Cumberland Streets. Participants marching in the parade will gather behind the old Blockbuster Video store at 1 Cumberland St. A last minute addition to the route is the Place Jolicoeur Memorial in front of Fire Headquarters at 5 Cumberland Hill Road.

Classic cars - Show up at Patriot's Diner, 65 Founders Dr., tonight at 5 p.m. for Classic Car Cruise Night. Take a trip down Memory Lane at a nostalgic '50s diner with vintage cars.

Circus - Picadilly Circus is in town. Motorcycles defy gravity, showgirls on stilts tower above the audience and giant wheels of death rotate at breathtaking speeds. Not a bad way to spend an afternoon.

Outside - Today will be partly cloudy and 71 degrees. There could be a few scattered thunderstorms, too.

Space simians - On this day in 1959, Monkeys Able and Baker zoomed 300 miles into space on a Jupiter missile, becoming the first animals retrieved from a space mission, according to brainyhistory.com.
